The molecule consists of 28 amino acid residues with an acetyl group attached to the N-terminal serine. Its sequence is acidic overall, with several glutamic and aspartic acid residues distributed along the chain and no cysteine, so disulfide bridges do not form. The peptide carries a net negative charge at physiological pH. Because the N-terminus is blocked, the intact molecule resists degradation by many aminopeptidases, which contributes to its stability in biological fluids.
The peptide is generated in cells by cleavage of prothymosin alpha, a larger acidic protein encoded by the PTMA gene. Prothymosin alpha is expressed in many tissues, not only in the thymus, and its functions include nuclear roles in chromatin-related processes. The 28-residue fragment corresponds to the N-terminal portion of that precursor. How the cleavage occurs and how the fragment's concentration is regulated remain open questions; circulating amounts are small and difficult to measure reliably with routine assays.
Immunological studies connect the peptide to multiple parts of the immune response. It has been reported to engage Toll-like receptor signaling, to promote dendritic cell maturation, and to influence the balance of T helper cell subsets. Changes in natural killer cell activity and in cytokine release appear in cell culture and animal models. These observations describe broad immunomodulatory behavior rather than a single defined receptor target, and the primary molecular interaction has not been settled.
Thymosin alpha-1 is a synthetic 28-amino-acid peptide whose sequence was first identified in extracts of bovine thymus tissue during the 1970s. The chain carries an acetyl group on its N-terminal serine. Its acidic residue content is high, which produces strong water solubility and an isoelectric point well below neutrality. Material supplied for laboratory and clinical use is manufactured by solid-phase peptide synthesis rather than purified from animal tissue. Different salt forms, such as the acetate, alter the counter-ion content without changing the peptide backbone.

Stability depends on temperature, pH, and the number of freeze-thaw events the sample has experienced. Freeze-dried material is commonly held at -20 °C or colder, while reconstituted liquid is kept cold and used within a short window. Extreme pH and prolonged light exposure can promote deamidation, oxidation, or aggregation, particularly at asparagine and methionine positions. Adsorption to container walls can lower the measured concentration of a dilute solution even when the peptide molecules themselves remain intact.
Identity and purity are usually assessed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, which separates the target peptide from truncated or chemically modified byproducts. Mass spectrometry confirms the expected molecular mass and can indicate acetylation state or sequence errors. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping supply complementary sequence-level information, while endotoxin testing is relevant for preparations intended for cell or animal work. Purity figures reported by suppliers refer to the method used and are not directly comparable across laboratories unless conditions are stated.
Thymosin alpha 1 is approved as a medicine in several countries, including Italy and China, for indications such as chronic hepatitis B and as an immune adjuvant. It is not approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration as a therapeutic product. In research settings the peptide appears in studies of sepsis, vaccine response, and oncology support, often with mixed or inconclusive results. The evidence base is uneven, and reviews note that many trials were small. Regulatory status therefore differs widely between jurisdictions.
Thymosin alpha 1 is a synthetic 28-amino-acid peptide first isolated in 1966 from thymosin fraction 5, a bovine thymus extract. Its chain begins with an acetylated serine residue and ends with asparagine. The native peptide carries a molecular mass near 3,108 daltons. Researchers classify it as an immunomodulatory agent rather than a hormone with a single endocrine target. Early work framed it as a thymus-derived factor that supports T-cell maturation. The synthetic form used in research and clinical products matches the natural sequence.
Clinical research has examined the peptide in chronic hepatitis B and C, as a vaccine adjuvant, and in sepsis and oncology settings. Findings across trials are mixed; some report changes in selected immune markers, while others find no clear clinical benefit. Many studies are small and define outcomes differently, which limits comparison. Regulatory approval is confined to a few countries, and the compound is not an approved drug in the United States or most of Europe.
Overall evidence quality varies considerably. A large share of published reports come from single centers, rely on surrogate immunological markers, or lack adequate control groups. Systematic reviews have highlighted this heterogeneity as a barrier to pooling results. Open questions include which patients, if any, might benefit, what treatment duration is appropriate, and whether any effect is independent of standard care. The peptide is often described as an immune modulator rather than a therapy for one disease, which complicates confirmatory trial design.
=== Stable vs radioactive isotopes === All isotopes of an element have the same number of protons with varying numbers of neutrons. Hydrogen has three naturally occurring isotopes: 1H, 2H and 3H; called protium (H), deuterium (D) and tritium (T), respectively. Both 1H and 2H are stable, while 3H is unstable and beta-decays to 3He. While there are some important applications of 3H in geochemistry (such as its use as an ocean circulation tracer) these will not be discussed further here.
The plant would be capable of converting natural gas into a liquid form that can be trucked to consumers. The project will create between 700 and 2,800 jobs in the region. In May 2019, Minister McNaughton announced that the Ontario government "committed up to $63.7 million" to Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) with support from other levels of government. The not-for-profit, publicly-funded SWIFT project to develop a regional fibre optic network, has been one of the key initiatives of the Western Ontario Wardens' Caucus (WOWC) representing upper-tier municipalities in southern Ontario from Dufferin to Windsor. Through SWIFT, federal, provincial and local municipalities "subsidize the construction of an open-access, high-speed broadband network in Southwestern Ontario, Caledon and the Niagara Region." In December 2025, Ford and Niagara Falls mayor Jim Diodati announced a new tourism strategy for the city, including expanded transportation and entertainment offerings such as new "attractions, gaming, wine and restaurants, and arts and culture." In early 2026, Ford announced plans to build a new 2-million square foot convention centre in Toronto, replacing the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. He later also announced plans to take control of the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to expand its runway and allow jets at the island airport, a suggestion immediately supported by the Toronto Port Authority. Expansion remains opposed by local Councillors, local community associations and the "NoJetsTo" and "Parks Not Planes" advocacy groups.
The nasolabial flap can be either superiorly based or inferiorly based; of which the superiorly based flap is the more practical rhinoplastic application, because it has a more versatile arc of rotation, and the donor-site scar is inconspicuous. Depending upon how the defect lay upon the nose, the flap pedicle-base can be incorporated either solely to the nasal reconstruction, or it can be divided into a second stage procedure. The blood supply for the flap pedicle are the transverse branches of the contralateral angular artery (the facial artery terminus parallel to the nose), and by a confluence of blood vessels from the angular artery and from the supraorbital artery in the medial canthus, (the angles formed by the meeting of the upper and lower eyelids). Therefore, the incisions for harvesting the nasolabial flap do not continue superiorly beyond the medial canthal tendon. The nasolabial flap is a random flap that is emplaced with the proximal (near) portion resting upon the lateral wall of the nose, and the distal (far) portion resting upon the cheek, which contains the main angular artery, and so is perfused with retrograde arterial flow.
== Advertising == A&W does not do national advertising; the primary factor for such being the lack of restaurants in certain parts of the United States. Its first attempt at doing a national television commercial was on June 16, 1969, when it booked for a slot on NBC's Monday Night at the Movies to advertise take-home gallons of root beer. In 1976, A&W Restaurants participated in the Easter Seals Telethon, where money from large root beer mugs was collected by the local restaurant on behalf of the TV station broadcasting the telethon in the area. In 1997, the chain adopted All American Food as its slogan in order to achieve widespread brand recognition. The chain increased its marketing budget in February 2000, eyeing for a new line of burgers in January 2001. For the summer of 2007, the chain launched the Moove to American campaign, which was created to counter competing chains relying exclusively on foreign beef; the campaign started on June 28 with a stunt featuring 35 cows sent on a barge to the Statue of Liberty. The aim was to petition the National Cattlemen's Beef Association to support consumption of U.S. beef. There was also a campaign to set up a new custom burger, with the winner heading over to Louisville to work for its serving in restaurants. A grassroots partnership with Green Bay Packers receiver Greg Jennings began in 2009, where Papa Burgers were sold at a price of 85 cents in Green Bay restaurants if Jennings made a touchdown. Due to its success, the campaign expanded to include all of Wisconsin in 2010.
A press release by the online dating app Tinder showed that the age group 18 to 24 became the majority of users on their platform in 2019. The company boasted 7.86 million users in the United States that year. Nevertheless, even though smartphone applications such as Tinder allow for easy hook-ups and one-night stands, Millennials and Generation Z are quite serious and cautious when it comes to long-term romantic relationships. Unlike generations past, who married earlier and after shorter periods of courtship, Generation Z generally prefers to take things slowly. Generation Z, especially women, is also more likely to have been friends with a romantic partner before dating. Daniel Cox of Five Thirty Eight explains, "This suggests a significant push back [among young Americans] against online dating as a way to meet partners." Most members of this cohort prefer monogamy. However, a significant number is choosing to remain single, because they do not want to be in a relationship, are facing trouble meeting the right people, or have other priorities at present, such as (higher) education or careers. Data from the 2019 General Social Survey revealed that 51% of Americans aged 18 to 24 had no steady partner, higher than other cohorts. Moreover, this number has grown in recent years. Men below the age of 30 are much more likely to be single than women in the same age group.

== Theoretical studies == There have been several theoretical studies on equilibrium thermodynamics of methane clumped isotopologues since 2008. These studies are based on ab initio, from underlying physical chemistry principles, and do not rely on empirical, or lab-based, data. Ma et al. utilized first-principle quantum mechanism molecular calculation (Density Functional Theory, or DFT) to study the temperature dependence of the 13CH3D abundance. Cao and Liu estimated
== Lubrication == Many driving chains (for example, in factory equipment, or driving a camshaft inside an internal combustion engine) operate in clean environments, and thus the wearing surfaces (that is, the pins and bushings) are safe from precipitation and airborne grit, many even in a sealed environment such as an oil bath. Some roller chains are designed to have o-rings built into the space between the outside link plate and the inside roller link plates. Chain manufacturers began to include this feature in 1971 after the application was invented by Joseph Montano while working for Whitney Chain of Hartford, Connecticut. O-rings were included as a way to improve lubrication to the links of power transmission chains, a service that is vitally important to extending their working life. These rubber fixtures form a barrier that holds factory applied lubricating grease inside the pin and bushing wear areas. Further, the rubber o-rings prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering inside the chain linkages, where such particles would otherwise cause significant wear. There are also many chains that have to operate in dirty conditions, and for size or operational reasons cannot be sealed. Examples include chains on farm equipment, bicycles, and chain saws. These chains will necessarily have relatively high rates of wear. Many oil-based lubricants attract dirt and other particles, eventually forming an abrasive paste that will compound wear on chains.
=== Porosity === Porosity is defined as volume fraction of voids within the PS layer and can be determined easily by weight measurement. The porosity of PS may range from 4% for macroporous layers to 95% for mesoporous layers. A study by Canham in 1995 found that "a 1 μm thick layer of high porosity silicon completely dissolved within a day of in-vitro exposure to a simulated body fluid". It was also found that a silicon wafer with medium to low porosity displayed more stability. Hence, the porosity of PS is chosen according to its potential application areas. The porosity of PS is a macroscopic parameter and doesn't yield any information regarding the microstructure of the layer. It is proposed that the properties of a sample are more accurately predicted if the pore size and pore distribution within the sample can be obtained.

=== Donald Trump's first presidency === Since late 2018, Trump repeatedly privately and publicly discussed buying Greenland. The Trump administration "courted Greenlandic politicians with promises of American business investment, educational opportunities, and development aid". According to a report in the New Yorker, a 2019 delegation of American diplomats and national-security officials, dispatched to discuss mining of mineral and particularly rare-earth mineral resources, included members of the Greenland Policy Coordination Committee, a committee within the National Security Council "working to subvert the Kingdom of Denmark".

Bolsonaro's response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil received significant criticism after he sought to downplay the pandemic and its effects, opposed quarantine measures, and dismissed two health ministers, while the death toll increased rapidly. A polarizing politician, Bolsonaro has drawn both praise and criticism in Brazil for his views and comments, which have been described as far-right and populist. He is a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage, abortion, affirmative action, drug decriminalization, and state secularism. In foreign policy, he has advocated closer relations with Israel and with the United States; later in his presidency, he also made efforts to improve relations with the BRICS countries. In the 2022 general election Bolsonaro lost to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. On 8 January 2023, a mob of Bolsonaro's supporters stormed federal government buildings, calling for a coup d'état. On 30 June, the Superior Electoral Court blocked Bolsonaro from seeking office until 2030 for attempting to undermine the validity of the election through his unfounded claims of voter fraud, and for abusing his power by using government communication channels to both promote his campaign and to allege fraud. Testimony from military officials showed that Bolsonaro had planned a self-coup with the military to keep himself in power. In November 2024, he was indicted by the Federal Police of Brazil on multiple counts related to the planned coup. He was charged in February 2025, and the Supreme Court ruled he must stand trial.

Thymosin fraction 5 is a mixture of many peptides obtained from thymus tissue, while thymosin alpha 1 is a single defined 28-residue molecule. The two names appear together in older literature because the purified peptide was first obtained from that mixture.
The precursor, prothymosin alpha, is encoded by the PTMA gene in humans. The 28-residue peptide corresponds to the N-terminal segment released from that larger protein.
It is produced as a fragment of prothymosin alpha and is present in many tissues. Circulating concentrations are low, which makes routine measurement difficult.
It is usually described as an immunomodulatory peptide rather than a classic circulating hormone. No endocrine gland is known to release it as a primary secretory product, and its measured presence in blood is not firmly established.
